2024 - Olympics - Chris Carlson
Chris Carlson, who was an integral part of the Marist men's rowing team from 2015-17, won a bronze medal at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris, France on Saturday.
Carlson rowed in the 5-seat of the USA Heavyweight Eight, which crossed the finish line in a time of 5:25.28. Team USA had advanced to the finals after winning its heat on Monday.
This was Carlson's first appearance in the Olympics, and he has now been a member of six US National teams.
Carlson was part of the Varsity Four and Varsity Eight at Marist. In both of his seasons with the Red Foxes, Carlson competed in the IRA Championships in the Varsity Four. He was a MAAC champion in the Varsity Eight in 2016. Carlson also broke the school record in the 2K Erg test, which at the time had stood for a decade-and-a-half.
In the summer of 2017, Carlson was selected to compete in the USRowing U23 National Team Selection Camp. The previous year, he rowed with the U23 development program Vesper Rowing Club.
Carlson is a native of Bedford, New Hampshire who rowed scholastically at Brewster Academy, and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame. He went on to finish his collegiate rowing career at the University of Washington.
