FALL UPDATES FROM COACH!
Dear Marist Rowing Alumni, Family and Friends,
I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer! I am writing today with a few updates on the team, and a reminder about the Marist Rowing Alumni Day next weekend and our fall calendar!
FALL UPDATES
The fall is always an energetic time with a new class on campus and this year has been no different with no less than 17 new oarsmen joining our roster from a fantastic incoming class of 2030. These gentlemen have hit the ground running and will be impacting the team at all levels this fall. I will be sending our usual press release on them on our Youtube Channel in the coming weeks!
ROWING ALUMNI AND FAMILY DAY
I wanted to remind everyone that the Marist Rowing Alumni Day is coming up this coming week on Saturday September 19th. The event starts with an alumni row at 9:30am where you can get a chance to hop in a boat and go out for a row on the Mighty Hudson. (we will try to be flexible with the river weather as we were last fall). Afterwards we will be christening the Women’s Rowing Team’s beautiful new Hudson 8+ rowing shell at noon followed by lunch. The event is low key and informal and we want to encourage anyone who wants to come to bring kids and family and even dogs! There will be lawn games and lots of fun had by all. We also want to make sure that our current athletes' families know that they are welcome and invited to attend as well!
FALL RACING SCHEDULE
The men’s team is making some adjustments to our fall racing schedule this year. There are several goals in mind including being more focussed with our varsity offerings and targeting specific performances. We are also saving some resources for a hopeful race on the left coast in the spring to enhance our spring calendar. The Red Foxes will first be targeting the Head of the Charles Regatta on October 16-18 with our top two varsity eights in the Collegiate Eights event as well as a varsity four in the collegiate fours (both on Sunday). We will have the Red Fox Navy Men and Women racing that Saturday in the alumni events as well! Following the chuck, the team will send our novice/freshman crews up to the Head of the Fish Regatta on Saturday Oct 24th. On the following weekend the majority of the Marist crew (1st-4th varsity eights) will race at the Princeton 3-Mile Chase on Sunday Nov 1st in Princeton NJ.
We want to encourage any and all of our parents and alumni to join us at all these events and we’ll be sending out information in the lead-up of the events.

Head Coach, Marist University Men’s Rowing Team
PS: I just wanted to update this alumni and family group about our Marist Red Fox Navy leader Bob Missert who has been extremely vocal and active in helping us to organize the alumni and families both socially and in terms of fund raising over the last 10 years. Bob’s close collaboration with the team has resulted in an over 3000% increase in yearly fund raising for the men’s rowing team since 2017 as well as the establishment of an annual rowing alumni day and alumni row event, enhanced connections with our parent’s crews and the establishment of the Red Fox Navy Alumni Rowing Team. Bob will not be joining us this year for the alumni day for the first time, owing to some heart health issues, and we hope everyone will join us in sending him our prayers and hopes for some good news and a speedy recovery in the coming months. His efforts for the team over the last 10 years have been far above and beyond the call of duty and his presence will be missed this fall!
