3/21/24 Trinity Scrimmage Preview

Dear Marist Rowing Alumni, Family, and Friends,

First I wanted to give you all a HUGE round of applause for an amazing giving day event yesterday where the Red Fox Navy raised over $100,000 for Men’s Rowing and another $35K for Women’s rowing with over 450 donors! More will be coming out shortly about our final results AND a big list of thankyou’s to the people who helped make it all possible

BUT the purpose of my writing this evening is that we’re about to open our racing season this Saturday with a scrimmage at Trinity in Hartford CT! It’s going to be both cold and rainy but we wanted you to know that you’re welcome to stop by and try to catch some of the action.

I believe a group of parents is putting together some snacks for the men after racing. If you want to be in the loop on that and aren’t already let me know and I can connect you with the right people!

LIVE STREAM

Old Man Technology Saga and Rant incoming!

Our new RedFoxNavy TV Youtube channel is doing great BUT I need 1000 followers or subscribers to live stream straight to the site and we currently have only 166. It was suggested by Kyle DePace our class genius for the class of ’23 that we use TWITCH which is a platform online gamers use to stream their games. I ran a small test on the system this evening and it DOES seem to run well from my phone as well as letting me save our streams for later to post on Youtube.

TLDR: If you want to catch the scrimmage OR parts of it as part of a livestream check out our new Twitch page at

https://www.twitch.tv/redfoxnavytv/schedule?seriesID=10cbd254-1840-48cc-80fd-fbe5cc6dbf42

The link should be free to view and will start around 10am on Sat Morning!

Please bare with me as we attempt to upgrade our streaming and video capabilities. This time around is truly experimental so I apologize in advance if it fails entirely!

Expectations

The beginning of the racing season is always extremely unpredictable as it is highly dependent on the hard work completed over winter and often teams come out of the winter process significantly changed from the fall. We feel that our crew has come a long way since last spring and since this past fall. Strong racing with GW and George Mason showed that we at least have the ability to hang with reasonable serious crews. Trinity is a NESCAC school meaning their practices are less official in the winter months which often gives us an edge in the early season but they had a strong fall and are four eights deep of athletes. We are hoping for a good scrap for all involved and come out with a nice close battle under our belts. The goal of the crew is pure aggression and the conversation has been about rowing offensively not defensively and pushing the tone and pace of our engagements more than last year. The workout planned is 5mins-5mins-4-3-2-1 all at race pace with double or more rest in between. The V8s and 2V8s will likely square off in the same flight rowing four across. We look forward to seeing you there OR on the live stream!
