2025 Fall Recap and GEAR STORES OPEN!

Dear Marist Rowing Alumni Family and Friends,

What a busy fall it has been for us here in Poughkeepsie! I’m writing today with

1)      A quick recap of the fall

2)      A list of what’s upcoming

3)      Announcing our gear stores for the holidays!

FALL SEASON RECAP

The team, in particular the varsity crew returned to campus with their hair on fire! Within the first month our top crew on the erg had dropped an average over 4 splits from their ergometer scores at the same time in 2024. The team opened the season with a dominant run at our scrimmage with Williams, winning all four of our 2000m pieces against them by open water. The boat then proceeded to push the rock at event for the remainder of the fall moving from 21st to 8th at the Charles, From 16th to 8th at the Schuylkill and from 26th to 19th at the Princeton Chase. The 2V started the program more hesitantly. They split races with Williams, the four moved up to 8th at the Charles they placed 9th at the Schuylkill in a fairly rusty performance, the 2V8 placed 9th losing to St. Joe’s on time by nearly 20 seconds but then STORMED through the Princeton Chase, PASSING Joe’s and beating them by 20 seconds themselves! There were bright spots in the rest of the crew as well. The 3V has been MUCH closer to the 2V all fall and seriously nipping at their ankles on the water and on the erg making it hard for Coach Stratton and I to figure out who belongs in which crew. Our novices got an opportunity to race at the Schuylkill which was exciting. There were also strong races from the Pairs who placed all 4 in the top half of their event at the Schuylkill with Juniors Tristan Wistuba and Matthias Topping placing 3rd and Sophomores Charlie Latimer and Reed Livingston just one second off their time in 4th. Our thrown together quad of Jackson Bower, Matthew Roscoe, Finn Lyons, and Drew Ngo won a 3 way gun battle in Philly to take home Schuylkill gold. Then the Varsity four of Will Shockley, Ryan Tuttle, Charlie and Reed crushed the Princeton Chase Flight # 2 with coxswain Tessa Kurtzman in the fours to take 10th and the top non-ivy crew.

UPCOMING

The Men’s Team closed out the fall with a small scrimmage at home vs Fairfield. We’re now headed straight into the pain cave for some deep exploration this winter. There is a TON of momentum and the athletes are excited to see how well we can convert summer and fall gains into spring speed through a more professional and committed winter training. In the coming months we’ll be getting some more content out including some year ending thank-yous and information about fund raising and then some info about the team training in Florida over winter, the Connor’s Erg Challenge, the Marist Rowing Biathlon, An exciting Marist In-House Boat Race Event and the announcement of our spring racing calendar! We hope you’ll stay tuned as we prepare for our 65th spring campaign!
